VII Service-Learning Researchers’ Symposium – 2025

CLAYSS, in partnership with the Ibero-American Service-Learning Network, organized the VII Service-Learning Researchers’ Symposium on Wednesday, 20th August 2025, at the Faculty of Dentistry of the Universidad de Buenos Aires (Marcelo Torcuato de Alvear 2142, Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, Argentina).

This Symposium was celebrated as part of the 22nd International Solidarity Service-Learning Week and provided an opportunity for research groups to meet, exchange ideas and share their experiences. In addition, the 28th International Solidarity Service-Learning Conference took place during this week. It was a free, in-person event (the registration for the symposium also granted access to this Conference).

The approved submissions were presented orally as posters at round tables, and some were selected to be presented as short lectures. Additionally, every approved submission will be published in the Proceedings of the VII Service-Learning Researchers’ Symposium (a publication with an ISBN), while some papers will be selected for publication in the journal RIDAS. Subsequently, some authors were invited to present their works at the 28th International Solidarity Service-Learning Conference.

The central themes addressed at the Symposium were the following:

1 – DISCUSSIONS AND THEORETICAL CONTRIBUTIONS

1.1 Contributions to the definition of “service-learning” and “solidarity service-learning”.

1.2 Solidarity, fraternity, spirituality and service-learning.

2 – INSTITUTIONAL PROGRAMMES BASED ON SERVICE-LEARNING

2.1 Monitoring and evaluation of institutional programmes.

2.2 Design, follow-up and outreach of institutional policies for service-learning implementation and promotion.

3 – CASE STUDIES AND SYSTEMATIZATION OF SERVICE-LEARNING PROGRAMMES AND PRACTICES

About the Researchers’ Symposium

CLAYSS has organized the Service-Learning Researchers’ Symposium since 2004, with seven meetings held to date (2004, 2012, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2023 and 2025). These events are part of the International Service-Learning Week schedule.

Its main goal is to provide theoretical foundations, opportunities for researchers to meet and exchange ideas, and visibility to experiences in different educational settings.

Papers must address one of the three themes mentioned above, with their specific topics: contributions to the definition of “service-learning” and “solidarity service-learning”; solidarity, fraternity, spirituality and service-learning; monitoring and evaluation of institutional programmes; framework, follow-up and scope of institutional policies to implement and foster the service-learning approach; and case studies and systematization of service-learning programmes and practices.
