The Ibero-American Service-Learning Network (REDIBAS)

The Ibero-American Service-Learning Network (REDIBAS) was founded in Buenos Aires on 29th October 2005 by government agencies, civil society organizations, universities and regional entities from Latin America, the United States and Spain. They shared an interest in promoting service-learning as a pedagogical approach, a means of citizen and social protagonism of children, adolescents and young people, and a life-changing tool.

REDIBAS is a space for learning, coordinating, implementing, raising awareness, and researching opportunities to develop and promote service-learning in Ibero-America. CLAYSS (Latin American Center for Service-Learning) and NYLC (National Youth Leadership Council) head the Executive Secretariat. Additionally, REDIBAS meetings are held during the annual conferences these organizations celebrate —in April in the United States and in August in Argentina.

Since its inception, it has supported and promoted the creation of national service-learning networks in different countries.

Among its main activities, it produces research and publications, including RIDAS, the first indexed journal on service-learning in Spanish. Since 2004, it organizes and convenes the Service-Learning Researchers’ Symposium (JIAS), a conference specifically for service-learning researchers. It has generated multiple initiatives on its own or in joint work with its members, promoting interchange and mutual support.

Every year since its inception, REDIBAS has supported the International Service-Learning Conference held annually in August in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
