TRAINING FOR SERVICE-LEARNING PROMOTERS

Duration: Ten weeks (48 horas)

This online course offers theoretical and practical tools to provide advice, support and guidance to different institutions, as well as communication skills and prosocial attitudes that enhance management expertise as service-learning promoters.  During this course, students will be able to further develop these skills, based on their mutual support and the right framework at each stage of the process.
The objective is to train agents for the service-learning promotion who may accompany through training, tutoring and technical assistance to educators and authorities from educational institutions of all levels, as well as leaders of civil society organizations, to plan, develop and assess the quality of service-learning projects.

Designed for

Educators of all levels —in formal and non-formal education—, authorities, advisors and members of civil society organizations who have previous training in the development and/or support of service-learning projects.

Contents

  • SL concepts and definitions, quadrants and transitions.
  • Public policies related to youths’ participation and service-learning.
  • Historical backgrounds and main events which enable the SL development.
  • SL theoretical sources. Debates and prospects in Latina American and other parts of the world
  • Service-learning: clarification and consolidation of basic features
  • Community, territory and networks: educational institutions as part of the social fabric.
  • Service-learning projects in educational institutions: Relationship between institutions and communities; institutional scenarios as a starting point for the implementation of SL projects; strategies for the transition towards a quality solidarity educational project.
  • Service-learning institutionalization. Promoter: definition, role and functions. Planning the promoter’s activities.
  • Support to solidarity educational institutions: institutional tutoring. Training.  Social organizations mapping. Options of solidarity service. Participatory design and planning with educators and students. Planning tools.
  • Multiplier and participatory leadership. Project dynamics and cycles.

 
Work methodology
This course is entirely online. Participants will have optional online activities (videoconferences) with tutors or references regarding the topics being worked on. The tutors will be constantly monitoring the participants’ approach regarding conceptual contents, suggested activities and their production of a proposal to support an institution that has been carrying out solidarity educational experiences.
Participants will be assisted by renowned specialists in this field who will continually offer advice and guide the individual production of a final integration project, which should introduce a work plan for institutional support as well as the design of tools for the institutions’ first training. Each participant should spend an estimate of 8 hours per week reading and elaborating the topics proposed in the course.

Evaluation
Participation in weekly activities and discussion forums.
Submission of an individual written production of a final integration, which should introduce a work plan for institutional support as well as the design of tools for the institutions’ first training.

Certificate
Clayss issues a 60-credit-hour certificate upon completion of the course with a passing grade
