Education in Motion: 14th Solidarity Youth Meeting and Open School Day for the Community

School No. 4-084, Libertador Simón Bolívar, brought together over 10 institutions for an event on service-learning, innovation, and sustainable development.

On Friday, 16th October, School No. 4-084, Libertador Simón Bolívar, hosted the 14th Solidarity Youth Meeting and Open School Day for the Community under the theme “Education in Motion”.

CLAYSS participated in the gathering, which promotes the concept that a community-engaged school is vital to sustainable development. The school’s students and teachers, led by Headmistress Prof. Paula Massoni, proved that a person’s life plan gains deeper meaning when that person actively contributes to the community’s well-being. “The future is today… The future of education is solidarity. Today, we were a live network of learning schools that embodies the spirit of over 600 student leaders,” stated Massoni.

Guided by the motto “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach him how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime”, the event featured leading schools from the Sustainable Schools Network committed to strategic management with social and environmental engagement.

The event included recognition awards for educators from various disciplines, hands-on workshops, a project fair, and an opening panel on the environment led by specialists and Youth4Climate (Y4C). Representing CLAYSS as part of the mentoring team, Iris Borges evaluated student initiatives and provided feedback, highlighting more than a decade of continuity for a programme that inspires young people to transform their surroundings.

Additionally, students held a video conference with members of the Universidad Carolina de El Saltillo (Mexico) —a collaboration sparked during the 29th International Solidarity Service-Learning Conference in Buenos Aires. This provided a valuable experience opportunity for international engagement and responsible civic commitment.
