The event brought together representatives from institutions worldwide that are part of the solidarity service-learning network in Catholic higher education.
The VII Uniservitate Global Symposium took place in a hybrid format —in person and live-streamed on YouTube in Spanish and English— on 26th and 27th October in Castel Gandolfo, Italy. Scholars, university officials, faculty members, church leaders, and students from every region represented in the Uniservitate network worked together and shared insights during two active days at the Mariápoli Center.
Organized by Uniservitate —a global network coordinated by the Latin American Center for Service-Learning (CLAYSS) in Argentina and Porticus— in collaboration with LUMSA University, in support of the Global Compact on Education promoted by the Vatican since 2019, the gathering provided a space to reflect, listen attentively, and debate various key issues in the higher education. Under the theme “Designing Maps of Hope Through Service-Learning”, the seventh edition fostered a spirit of exchange and intercultural engagement that was evident in all the panel discussions, presentations, and group sessions. Once again, service-learning demonstrated its full potential as a pedagogy for genuine change and transformation, even in challenging contexts such as war, migration, and imprisonment.
