Service-Learning as Key to Promoting Student Engagement at University

Universidad Siglo 21 Holds CLAYSS Training Session.

On Thursday, 26th March, CLAYSS conducted an online training session for administrators and faculty at Universidad Siglo 21 on solidarity service-learning as a teaching strategy to strengthen student engagement.

Sebastián Puglisi led the activity, encouraging participants to reflect on the potential of service-learning to foster authentic experiences of community engagement. During the session, he highlighted the central role of students in developing projects that combine academic training with involvement in specific social issues, while emphasizing the role of lecturers as facilitators of these processes.

The meeting stressed the importance of incorporate these proposals into the university curriculum to promote meaningful learning experiences with social impact. The discussion also explored the concept of co-intelligence, defined as the connection between human intelligence, artificial intelligence, and community knowledge, focused on enhancing collaborative and context-specific learning.

The presentation brought to light the urgent need to move towards academic models that, beyond the effective transmission of content, produce professionals committed to social transformation and are capable of acting critically and responsibly within their communities.
