EDUCATION FOR TRANSFORMATION: THE SERVICE-LEARNING APPROACH

Duration: Five weeks (25 hours)

Target audience: Educators from educational institutions of all levels and members of civil society organizations interested in the SL pedagogy.

Discussion: What does Service-Learning mean, and what makes it different from other solidarity-based educational practices? What are the keys to Service-Learning? Is it possible to do Service-Learning in all educational institutions? How to start a project? This virtual course introduces the theoretical and practical insights to service-learning and designing projects for institutions and civil society organizations. During the course, you will be able to:

• Identify the specifics of service-learning and distinguish it from other solidarity practices.
• Further the service-learning cornerstones.
• Learn about particular experiences that can inspire new projects in your educational community.
• Discuss the effect of solidarity-based educational practices on the learning paths of children, adolescents, young people and their communities.

• Institutional transitions towards service-learning
• Steps to design service-learning projects

Modality: La The course is online.

It provides:

• Open and self-managed system
• Innovative digital materials
• Online meetings
• Individual and group activities

Each student should spend an estimate of 3-4 hours per week reading and elaborating on the course topics.

Evaluation:

• An evaluation activity per module.
• Presentation of a line of action for a service-learning project.

Certificate: CLAYSS issues a 20-credit-hour certificate upon the course completion with a passing grade.
