Solidarity Youth in Uruguay

The project “Huerta agroecológica liceal [School Agroecological Vegetable Garden]” of the Liceo de Montes de Canelones, Uruguay, was one of the winners of the 2023 Solidarity Education Contest in that country. In this solidarity project, the students are clear protagonists of the experience and have made the areas of the school their own for different purposes. The institution supports the process to ensure that the school becomes a centre with “doors open to the community”. Thus, as a result of joint work, one of the school’s spaces has been transformed into an agroecological vegetable garden: from classroom research to days of collaboration with the community families and neighbours, called “Minga”, where everyone participates in various tasks.
