Service-Learning & Artificial Intelligence: A Topic Worth Discussing
The upcoming edition of the European Service-Learning Coffee Break offers educators and service-learning practitioners across Europe a platform to share experiences.
The SLESON network (Service-Learning in European Schools and Organizations Network) and the Stiftung Lernen durch Engagement foundation invite the education and research community to the next European Service-Learning Coffee Break —an online exchange connecting educators and service-learning practitioners across Europe. It will take place online on Thursday 1st October 2026, with prior registration required.
Entitled “Service-Learning & Artificial Intelligence —Developing Digital-Democratic Competences through Service-Learning”, this event focuses on the effect of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on education and society. The discussion includes some important questions for education, such as: How can students develop the competences they need to use AI responsibly and critically? How can AI become a tool for participation, inclusion, and active citizenship?
In this Coffee Break, educators and students from European institutions will share insights from their Service-Learning practices exploring the connection between technology and community engagement:
IS Europa (Naples, Italy): Experiences from a long-standing Service-Learning pathway supported by AI.
Liceo “E. Majorana” (Catania, Italy): Project on the conscious use of AI to respond to needs in their local community, exploring topics such as ethics, privacy and inclusion.
Alexandru Rusu High School (Baia Mare, Romania): AI integrated in the Service-Learning project “Under the Star of Kindness”.
Transylvania College (Romania): The robotics team Alphatronic will present how they used AI to enhance their long-standing Service-Learning project.
The presentations will be followed by an interactive discussion and networking session to exchange ideas and foster future international collaborations in service-learning.
