On 11st November, an international conference entitled ‘Territory and educational community. Pedagogical innovation and service-learning (SL) for quality relationships and social welfare: the protagonists have the floor’. The event was organised by INDIRE and the FORLILPSI Department of the University of Florence, Italy, with the sponsorship of the Ministry of Education and Merit and Cesvot.
During the morning, experiences of schools in the Tuscany region that have been developing service-learning projects, were presented by teachers and students. CLAYSS was present with the participation of Andres Peregalli, vice coordinator of Universitate, who referred to the territory as a place of encounter and transformation through the pedagogy of service-learning, accompanied by Mr. Alejandro Gimelli, who presented the twinning [Gemelazgo] programme between schools. In the afternoon, our director and founder, María Nieves Tapia, opened the debate with an intervention dedicated to presenting how solidarity is a fundamental part of the pedagogy of service-learning for social transformation.
The following day, Nieves was invited to a colloquium with the INDIRE team, an organisation that accompanies the development of service-learning within the framework of the Italian Ministry of Education. In addition to the team of researchers and officials from INDIRE, researchers and professors from the University of Florence also participated.
