Solidarity Service-Learning and Value Education

Luz Avruj, our Institutional Relations and Network Coordinator, was invited by Fundación Fepaís, an Argentine foundation that works to improve school and community life, to present the solidarity service-learning approach to participants in the Joyful Talisman Certificate on Human Values Global Training Programme.  Her presentation, “Aprendizaje-servicio solidario: una oportunidad para cambiar el mundo a través de la Educación [Solidarity Service-Learning: An Opportunity to Change the World through Education],” highlighted how solidarity-based education can transform the world on a daily basis, thanks to active listening that identifies and addresses the real needs of each community, and acting with empathy, cooperation, and love.

The online meeting was attended by colleagues from Global Peace Let’s Talk and Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti, among others.

Twenty-seven people attended, mostly from India, Pakistan, and African countries.

The Joyful Talisman Certificate is a 12-week international training course, inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s talisman. It is aimed at educators, trainers, and community leaders, and its objective is to strengthen compassion, solidarity, non-violence, and human interdependence by providing practical means to transform the inner world, empower new generations, and promote peace in every community.

During the meeting, the book “El talismán de la alegría [The Joy Talisman],” written by Vedabhyas Kundu and Munazah Shah and translated into Spanish by Marta Lescano, founder of Fundación Fepaís, was presented as a valuable tool to develop values-based coexistence in all areas of life.
