“Familia, Educación y Fraternidad: la solidaridad como oportunidad para transformar la sociedad [Family, Education and Fraternity: Solidarity as an Opportunity to Transform Society],” Andrés Peregalli. La Famiglia Journal, 2024, Studium Publishing House.
Written by Andrés Peregalli, vice-coordinator of the global network Uniservitate, this article explores the transformations and interrelationships in the family and the educational world, taking fraternity and solidarity as an opportunity for both to meet. This way, it argues about the contribution of this interrelationship to the development of a Culture of Encounter in general and the Global Compact on Education in particular. To this end, concepts are introduced in the following sequence: 1) Families and education: transformations; 2) Solidarity: an opportunity to build a Culture of Encounter; 3) Final considerations.

“Innovation in EMTP: Aprendizaje en Servicio (A+S) y Experiencias Pedagógicas Innovadoras [Innovation in EMTP: Service-Learning (SL) and Innovative Pedagogical Experiences],” was published in 2024 by Grupo Educativo de Chile in partnership with the Chilean Ministry of Education. It is a compilation of projects and pedagogical experiences implemented in EMTP (acronym for the Professional and Technical Secondary School in Chile) with the Service-Learning (SL) approach. Based on concrete cases, the text illustrates how this educational approach not only strengthens students’ technical skills but also develops socio-emotional and citizenship skills, preparing them for comprehensive professional development committed to their environment.
It offers a theoretical approach to the service-learning pedagogy, in addition to the systematization of innovative experiences carried out in technical-professional high schools in 2023 and 2024.
The work highlights that SL is a key tool to narrow the gap between education and the labour market. When facing real challenges, students not only improve their technical skills but also acquire ‘soft’ skills, such as adaptability, creativity and work ethic, which are in demand in the professional environment. In addition, the methodology promotes sustainability by incorporating practical solutions to social and environmental problems, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The cases presented not only validate the effectiveness of solidarity service-learning to develop comprehensive professional skills but also inspire its replicability in various contexts, contributing to more humane, innovative technical training, connected to the demands of the 21st century.
