On the occasion of the International Conference organised in New Orleans by the International Association for Research on Service-Learning and Community Engagement (IARSLCE), our director Nieves Tapia received the Lifetime Achievement Award.
This recognition acknowledges and highlights those who have made a significant contribution to service-learning and community engagement over the years. The audience at Tulane University’s lecture hall gave Nieves Tapia a standing ovation after her speech.
Our director especially highlighted the work shared throughout her life: “I would like to accept this award on behalf of the two great teams I have been privileged to develop my career with —the Solidarity Education National Programme at Argentina Ministry of Education and the wonderful team at CLAYSS, the Latin American Center for Solidarity Service-learning”.
She also highlighted the contribution of the concept of “solidarity” to service-learning: “In Spanish, solidaridad is not a radical word for the few, but an everyday word that recognizes that we are all brothers and sisters, and we need to learn to work together for the common good and our common home the planet”.
We congratulate Nieves for this recognition and celebrate that service-learning is still a reason for people around the world to meet, exchange and reflect on this topic.
