The institution began the project “Mi escuela es colour [My school is colour]” to provide students with strategies to develop artistic skills —students who did not have access to cultural activities or arts education.
The project has been in progress for some years. It was envisioned to promote art through its art gallery and artistic gatherings. These actions are developed together with municipal bodies, as well as the students’ families. The next step is to reach the community, visit other educational institutions and participate in group exhibitions of children’s art and other activities.
During the second year of the project carried out by the students, theatre is a recreational, cross-curricular and multidisciplinary pedagogical approach to teach content, social issues (environmental protection, health care) and historical facts to children in pre-primary and primary school, where senior citizens take part in the learning process and the development and presentation of the play(s).
Using projects based on shadow and puppet theatre for community-based organizations and schools and the joint participation of nursing homes, the students can offer senior citizens fun while learning together and improving social relations in community spaces. It creates experiences that allow the elderly to feel useful and appreciated in a society that increasingly excludes them.
