Every October, First-year students from the Alta Mira Danish School and residents of the San Andrés Nursing Home come together to distribute seedlings grown during the year in their Garden Workshop, a joint project with —and for— the community.
This activity fosters community engagement and intergenerational relationships, since it offers a space to meet and learn together, while forging ties between students, the elderly and the entire community.
The Altamira Danish School, the Necochea Cultural Centre and the San Andrés Nursing Home work jointly work on this solidarity service-learning project, helping young people develop values, such as care, cooperation and social responsibility, which contributes to community’s well-being.
In addition, the nature of the project makes it perfect for raising awareness about caring and protecting its environment, which is well-known for its woodland and extensive beaches. The conclusion of the work, final seedling giveaway, is also an opportunity to meet once more, see the results, celebrate and give.
