Solidarity Service-Learning in Teacher-Training in Uruguay

As part of the agreement between CLAYSS and the Education Training Council (ETC) in Uruguay, the course ‘Propuesta Pedagógica de Aprendizaje y Servicio Solidario [Solidarity Service-Learning Pedagogical Approach]’ began in October as an elective subject in the Teacher-Training programme. The course is geared towards students in three degree programmes—Primary-Education Teacher, Early-Childhood Teacher, and Secondary-Education Teacher. It also provides training focused on combining teaching experience with community engagement.

The course aims to help students develop skills to design solidarity-based educational projects with a learning-service approach. Additionally, it helps students learn and apply different strategies and tools for project diagnosis, design, implementation, and evaluation. It also encourages them to reflect on the role of teachers and educators as coordinators of projects with social impact, alongside the effects of solidarity-based educational practices on school performance.

With this new edition of the course, CLAYSS reaffirms its commitment to teacher training, pedagogical innovation while fostering learning experiences that combine learning with doing and serving.
