Creativity, Community and Solidarity: Inspiring Experiences of Solidarity Service-Learning

The webinar “Cambiar el mundo desde el aula [Changing the world from the classroom]” was held on 26th June. Promoted by the Fundación Noble, it addressed educators, school administrators and representatives interested in learning about the pedagogical potential of Solidarity Service-Learning (SSL). Representing CLAYSS, Iris Borges gave a presentation on the approach and shared a winning experience of the Presidential Award “Solidarity Schools” 2024.

The highlight of the day was the “Provincia de Neuquén” elementary school in San Juan, Argentina, sharing an initiative that is deeply rooted in its community. It seeks to strengthen intergenerational integration while collaborating with elderly people in vulnerable situations and promoting meaningful learning experiences. From growing aromatic herbs to designing handmade clay containers, the project combines sustainable production, artistic expression, technology (through QR codes), and a strong sense of community.  It is more than a product: it is a story, a shared emotion, a commitment to creativity with a social meaning.

The exchange surpassed its first expectations and left the participants with a certainty: learning can be profoundly transformative when it is connected to the real needs of a community and based on a pedagogy of encounter and active participation.
