Solidarity Youth in Río Negro, Argentina

The Centro de Enseñanza Técnica N°18, a technical secondary school, has been running two solidarity service-learning projects since 2015: PAS Braille and Bastón Inclusivo [Inclusive Walking Stick].

Both projects, led by the students and supported by their teacher, José Caro, were designed to address the need to promote the inclusion of blind and visually impaired people in their community.

They created signage and signs in Braille to install them in public spaces and buildings in Villa Regina, according to the city regulations. From that first project launched in 2015, a second project has emerged in which students also make canes for the visually impaired and people with low vision and limited resources.

Both projects won the Presidential Award “Solidarity Schools” 2024 (https://www.argentina.gob.ar/sites/default/files/publicacion_de_finalistas_premio_presidencial_1.pdf ) [website in Spanish]
