International Congress on Service-Learning in Universities Today

The First International Congress on Service-Learning, organized by the UNED and led by the institution’s educational innovation group, was held online from 25th to 27th June. The event focused on service-learning practices in digital environments, specifically about innovation and engagement in 21st-century universities.

On 26th June, our Institutional Relations and Network Coordinator, Luz Avruj, delivered a presentation entitled “¿Transferir o co-crear conocimiento? El Aprendizaje-Servicio en las universidades como motor de transformación social [Transferring or co-creating knowledge? Service-learning in universities as the driving force behind social transformation]”. Colleagues from Spain, Ecuador, Argentina and other countries listened attentively to Luz, who shared different ideas on the subject, quoting Daniela Gargantini (Uniservitate-Universidad Católica de Córdoba, Argentina) in particular: “Research is more than just producing knowledge. It is asking the right questions and finding compelling reasons that inspire and enable change.”

Throughout the three-day Congress, there were notable presentations by leaders of various national service-learning networks in Ibero-America, who joined the many speakers from Spanish networks, such as Sol Palacios from the Ecuadorian network, Manuel Caire from the Chilean network, Erika Duque Bedoya from the Colombian network, and Leticia López Villarreal from the Mexican network, among others.
