CLAYSS Participates in Service-Learning Institutionalization Conference in Barcelona

Held in Barcelona, Nieves Tapia, director of CLAYSS, participated in the conference “Avanzando en la institucionalización del ApS en las universidades [making progress in the SSL institutionalization in universities].”

On 18th November, Professor Nieves Tapia, director and founder of CLAYSS, was invited as a keynote speaker in this event hosted by the ApSUCAT Network (Service-Learning Network in Catalonia) and ACUP, in collaboration with the Department of Research and Universities of the Generalitat de Catalunya (Catalan Government).

Along with Professor Anna Escofet, Universitat de Barcelona and member of the ApSUCAT Network, our director emphasized that solidarity service-learning “is fully established when it becomes part of the institutional identity and is seen as a natural approach within the educational processes”. In addition, she stressed that this teaching method not only prepares students for real life but also addresses aspects often overseen by other educational approaches, such as the real meaning of working academically in connection with the needs of society.

The organizers recognized the valuable contributions of the participants and the high quality of the presentations, a further step towards service-learning institutionalization and the transformative power of itself.
